It ranks as one of my greatest skiing thrills this winter. After flying by helicopter 11,000ft up the Col de la Becca in Italy, I started my descent and was presented with a perfect view of two of Europe's most imperious peaks - Mont Blanc and the fearsome Matterhorn.

It was a magical start to the day. We had arrived in Italy from the quaint and little-know resorts of Sainte Foy, just over the French border.

Fans of Sainte-Foy, located just 20 mins' drive from Val d'Izère Tignes and Les Arcs, have been trying to keep the little village's charm and deserted world-class off-piste a secret for years.

However, the truth will out and while the budding resort can't begin to complete with it's better-known neighbours in terms of quantity of ski terrain or luxury ski chalets, it's becoming a serious contender in terms of quality of both.
